The High Strung: Coming Soon to a Library Near You

Highstrung051007Talk about a bookish band. Detroit’s The High Strung is a terifically-upbeat garage rock group that was profiled last year on This American Life for being the first-ever band to conduct a tour of US libraries.

The trio is preparing to launch its second annual library tour next month in support of its new album, Get the Guests. The High Strung will play gigs at nearly 30 libraries over a three-month period. The shows include audience interaction in the form of collaborative improv songwriting. Bandmembers will follow performances by answering audience questions about their work. The shows are free; just make sure your late fees are paid up first. Tour dates below:

So what makes a band bookish, you might ask? Never having heard of the High Strung before, I’d have to say that it comes from myspace blog posts on band members current reads.

While there are no MD, DC or VA shows on the library tour, they will be playing at the 9:30 Club on May 17th.

What do you think of rock bands in libraries?
